Thank you to my Safe Spaces

Rilee Lansing, Mini Feature Editor

Safe. This is how I describe the JLab and Mrs. Callanan’s office. These spaces have been there for me in some of my hardest times during my four years at Xavier, especially during the past two years dealing with friendships, college decisions and life advice. Overtime, however, I’ve come to realize that it is not necessarily the physical rooms that make me feel safe, but the people in them.

Thank you to Mrs. Wagner for trusting me to be a page editor my junior year and Mrs. Augustine for continuing to believe in my work. They both showed me that Newspaper can be an outlet to express my creative sides and forget about all the stress for a moment. This has truly shaped who I am as a person. Thank you to all my classmates for helping me push my boundaries. I would especially like to thank Taylor Coester for sitting by me for the last two years and offering suggestions, as well as Maddie Pithan for helping me become the designer I am today.

I would finally like to thank Mrs. Callanan for all the time she has spent not only helping me academically, but also helping me become the person I am today. Thank you for giving me the hard advice when I need it and pushing me to be the best version of myself. You have made one of the biggest impacts on my high school experience and have made these four years truly enjoyable. I feel blessed to have been able to spend 3B with you and I am grateful you gave me the ability to help other students see their full potential. This allowed me to continue to become who I am today.

Thank you for being there in my hardest moments.
