Serving Saints

This past spring break, a group of students and teachers from Xavier High School traveled abroad to help those in need. Señor Alexis Avila and Senora Jaclyn Richmond accompanied three sophomores, two juniors, and three seniors to Quito, Ecuador.

These Saints served meals, taught classes, laid foundation for a house, and cleaned for the less fortunate within this community. They primarily provided service in Quito, but visited Otavalo and Mindo as well.

“If we just wanted to do service we could’ve stayed in America,” senior Erin Clarke said. “However, the fact that it was in a separate continent, let alone country, made what we did and what we saw so much more impactful. We were able to impact those who were part of the Working Boys’ Center, but I think they impacted us more.”

“I saw the photos and videos from last year’s trip and was immediately jealous,” junior Sean Deegan said. “The idea of visiting South America was intriguing and service involving kiddos was a bonus.”

This trip is expected to continue for all who want to help provide service. Those looking to improve their Spanish and serve in other parts of the world are recommended to apply for this opportunity.
