Pancakes or Waffles?

Flour, eggs, milk and butter on a warm skillet. This is all someone needs to make the breakfast of dreams. A sweet and savory item that can be paired with anything of your liking: fruit, bacon, cereal, syrup, you name it because this item goes good with it all. With this description, you may have thought of one of two things, waffles or pancakes. If you thought of waffles, you’re wrong. Pancakes are superior in many ways.

First of all, they can be healthier than waffles. According to Alton Brown, waffles have a higher percentage of sugar and fat. This can make people feel as though they may not be able to go all out on their toppings, which is simply devastating. No one wants to eat a plain waffle.  With pancakes ,you can feel less guilty and really splurge on your toppings, whether it be with some syrup or  strawberries.

Second, pancakes are much softer. This  is much more comforting and pleasing in the morning. When you first wake up, do you really wanna eat something that is hard, burnt and can sometimes be too crunchy? No. When you wake up and have a craving for something sweet and savory you want something soft, it’s just a fact of life.

Third, toppings. When putting toppings on something like pancakes or waffles you want to be able to spread it evenly. There’s nothing more unsatisfactory than having an amazing bite of something and then having a bland and boring bite due to the fact that your topping was not spread evenly. A waffle’s structure withholds the error of being a grid ,which unevenly disperses the toppings. You’re unable to butter evenly or even put on blueberries evenly. The squares prevent this and are also the part that can make it crispy. Pancakes, on the other hand, have the ability to have their toppings evenly spread. An example of this is syrup on pancakes. With this, the syrup is able to truly soak in and sponge up the pancake so that you get some in every bite, something waffles are unable to do due to their grid-like crispiness.

Finally, pancakes are overall better looking. When you think of a breakfast commercial or ad, you simply don’t think of waffles. You think of a nice stack of pancakes with all the fancy toppings. You’re also able to make pancake art, something waffles could never do. Sure, you could make the waffle into a shape, but I’ve seen videos of people turning their pancakes into Disney princesses, something a waffle iron could never do. At the end of the day, love yourself and eat Spongebob pancakes instead of that weird kind of Mickey Mouse shaped waffle.

All in all, pancakes are the better choice. They’re soft, sweet, healthier (in some cases), and more versatile and more enjoyable. This is just a fact of life at this point. If you don’t recognize this yet, I’m sorry and maybe this article helped you see the golden brown light.
