Christmas lights have gone up, Advent wreaths have been lit, and trees are being decorated in preparation for the Christmas season. However, Christmas preparations have been happening since October for the Xavier band and choirs. The band and choirs hosted their annual Christmas with Xavier concert Sunday, December 10 at 5p.m. in the Ron Thillen gymnasium. This concert is a cherished tradition in the Xavier community and is one of the largest concerts hosted by the Fine Arts Department.

The four Xavier choirs: Bel Canto, Singing Saints, Voce, Women’s Chorale, and Xavier Chorale, each performed two songs, and all choirs joined together for two songs. The Xavier choirs are under the direction of Mr. Matt Walker and Ms. Brianna DeJong. All of the choirs have been practicing their songs since the week after their fall vocal preview in October.

“The best part of Christmas with Xavier is the opportunity it provides, which allows us to join together with the Xavier community to celebrate Christmas and Christ’s birth through song,” senior chorale member Gabriella Cummings said.

The Xavier band performed four songs under the direction of Ms. Kelli Swehla.

“I really do love playing during the concert, but my favorite part is listening to the choir. They put in a lot of time and effort to make their songs sound as good as they do, and it’s fun to listen to all their beautiful voices,” senior band member Marissa Cosgrove said.

Christmas with Xavier will be broadcasted on KCRG channel 9.2 on December 24 at 2 p.m. It will also be broadcasted on channel 9 on Christmas Day at 6 a.m.
