During a senior year of high school, one will experience many ‘lasts’. For seven Xavier senior golfers, they are experiencing their last season of high school golf.

Calvin Ford, Brad Karpick, Will Karpick, Ryan Keating, Carter Kramer, Andrew Millsap, Matt Neumeyer, and Trenton Smith were honored on senior night at St. Andrews on Thursday, September 21. This was the chance for the underclassmen and coaches to thank these men for leaving their mark on the program.

“They have made a huge impact,” junior Dan Bailey said. “We will definitely miss them because of how talented they are and how much fun it is to play with them.”

These seniors have also proven to be great leaders through their actions.

“The seniors have shown outstanding leadership in the way they carry themselves on and off the course, as well as supporting the younger guys on the team,” junior Nick Recker said.

However, the underclassmen are not the only ones who are at a loss here. The seniors will also miss the golf program after postseason is over.

“It makes me sad to know that it will all be over soon,” Ford said.

This group of seniors has accomplished a lot in their four years at Xavier. They qualified for state in 2015, have won multiple conference super meets, and have been awarded with various personal awards. Even with all of these accomplishments, the team is looking to add one more by qualifying for the postseason this year.

“It has been a great four years, this team has really accomplished a lot,” Neumeyer said. “Now it is time for the postseason. Hopefully we can play well at districts to get one last chance to play together as a team at state”

While looking back on the last four years, the players can think of some great memories. These include playing at the state meet, winning district meets, and growing closer as teammates.

“My favorite memories come from all three of my Ryder Cup Victories, especially the last two years when Carter Kramer and I got first place in the meet,” Ford says.

The Saints competed in the Class 4A district meet on October 3 at Elmcrest Country Club. The 4A State golf meet is held on October 6 and 7 at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown.
