Fulton fuels the Saints

Senior Jacob Fulton broke a school record by bowling a high score of 299 against Iowa City West on Friday, January 20 at May City Bowl. For Fulton, bowling a 299 was a highlight.

“It was something I’ve always wanted to achieve,” Fulton said.

Fulton knocked down nine strikes in a row. In his last set, he laid down nine pins.

A week prior, Fulton won KCRG’s “Athlete of the Week” and was interviewed by Scott Saville about his outstanding performances so far this bowling season.

Fulton also has individual goals he would like to accomplish with his team.

“I want to go back to state and also qualify as a team,” Fulton said. “It feels really exciting knowing we have the chance to bowl against the best teams in the state.”

The boys have also made some goals they would like to accomplish as a team.

“As a team goal, we would like to bring a banner back to Xavier,” Fulton said. “Another goal is increasing our team chemistry and getting better.”

Fulton is not the only senior who is leading the team. The Saints are returning experienced upperclassmen Jackson Schuster and Michael Buenzow.

Schuster and Buenzow have bowled varsity for the last four years.

For Buenzow, this season is about finishing strong. “My goal for this season is to get our team in the best possible position to make it to state,” Buenzow said.

The boys’ team record so far this season is 6-3. The Saints competed against Jefferson on Friday, January 27 at May City Bowl. The boys won the meet with a high score of 2,833 to Jefferson’s score 2,472. Fulton had the highest game for the Saints at 227.

The team looks to have a strong finish in the MVC. The boys state qualifying meet is Tuesday, February 14, at May City Bowl.
