Xavier show choir is built on more than just singing and dancing, it is built upon family. In this family, techies, musicians, and performers put their time and effort into show choir.

Since August, the Xavier show choirs have been learning choreography and new music to improve their performances.

“We are always working on our tone, dynamics, balance, and breath support to better our performances,” senior Jennifer Wille said. This is Wille’s second year performing as a member of Xuberance.

The show choirs have also been working to perfect their costume changes. Techies, like senior Hannah Arnold, help show choir performers make a quick change before running back onto the stage to perform another song.

“I make sure that all of their costumes are ready for performances,” Arnold said. “I keep hair spray, duck tape, and bobby pins on me at all times. I’m in charge of making sure all the other techies are prepared for whatever happens during the performance.” Arnold has been a techie for three years.

This year, Xuberance’s show includes Demi Lovato’s “Confident,” Building 429’s “Impossible,” Burlesque’s “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me,” Alessia Cara’s “Wild Things,” and Britt Nicole’s “Indestructible.”

Xhilaration performs “Safety” by Fireflight, “Save the Last Dance” by Michael Bublé, “Flares” by The Script, “Back to Life” by Colton Dixon, “Save the Day” by Selena Gomez, and “Message in a Bottle” by The Police. These songs are performed by Xavier’s combo. One of the musicians is Becca Fields, who plays the alto saxophone and has been in combo for four years. “The combo got the music late in the game this year and were only able to have four rehearsals before the first competition,” Fields said. “We made every moment count and were actually very prepared when our first competition arrived.”

Xhilaration and Xuberance’s next competition will be February 11 at Benton High School. As the competitive season comes to a close, Xavier show choir’s last competition will be February 25 at Kennedy High School.
