A Saint to a Badger

Thud, thud, thud. The ball bounces as the server is getting ready for the next point. The ball soars through the air as the squeaking of shoes echoes throughout the gym. Xavier Alumni Brynn Teeling (X21) gets the opportunity to witness this scenario front and center, as she is the University of Wisconsin Volleyball Team Manager. It all started when Teeling retired her jersey for the Xavier Saints volleyball team and took on the role as manager for her high school team, instead. “It definitely helped having Austin [head coach for varsity volleyball] as a coach because he is extremely knowledgeable about volleyball, especially at the next level,” Teeling said. “Because of him I have extremely high standards for the programs I am involved in and he made going from a high school team manager to a college team manager not difficult at all.” Grace Zaugg (X21) managed Xavier’s volleyball team alongside Teeling and saw the passion Teeling had from the very beginning. “Ever since we started managing at Xavier she [Teeling] always talked about her dream of wanting to manage the Wisconsin volleyball team,” Zaugg said. “She loves volleyball and wants to take her skills to the next level.” Despite being manager for a high school team, there was still much responsibility taken on. “We had to help run drills at practice everyday, keep stats during games and filmed every game and uploaded the videos for the team to watch,”Zaugg said. Moving to college level, a bit more responsibility is required. “I still set up drills at practice like I did at Xavier,” Teeling said. “But now I get to be more a part of the technological parts of the team. I get to keep statistics and help with scoring as well.” All of the hard work comes with high reward. “I love feeling like I’m contributing and making a difference, so when the days get long and tiring from running around, I remember that national championship we are working towards,” Teeling said. Watch Teeling live out her dream of being a part of an organization that she has grown up watching. Wisconsin will play the University of Iowa at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena on November 6 at 7 p.m. and the game can also be found on the B1G network.
