Runs in the family
September 30, 2021
Sometimes there is more to running than just running and for one Xavier family, the Luther Cross Country meet was more than just another meet. On September 11, senior Eden Campbell ran a cross country meet at Luther college, bringing back memories for her and her parents, Valarie and Eric Campbell. Both of Eden’s parents ran cross country and track at Luther, making it fun to watch their daughter run almost the same course they did. Luther College and running has been a big part of the Campbell family for quite some time. “Although I have been involved in other sports, cross country holds a special place in my heart,” Eden said. “It is always fun to have my biggest supporters (my mom and dad) on the sideline cheering me on because I know they were once in my shoes.” Eden has created a bond with her parents while running cross country for Xavier. With Erik on the sideline cheering his daughter on, saying “catch the next 3 girls in front of you”. This saying motivates Eden to push through the race. “She has grown over the past two season in that she is passionate about getting better each race. She is not out for a joy run and leaves no gas in the tank,” Erik said. “She wants to know her time both during and after the race. Eden strives to PR each meet which is very difficult with the nature of each course.” Not only does Eden strive to PR after every race but she has fun while doing it. She shows grit in every race, giving her all to be the best runner she can be. “The Luther meet went well for a lot of us and it was easily one of the prettiest courses I have run. Although it was a challenging meet, a few of us stuck together and pushed each other to the finish,” Eden said. “My goal for the team this year is to be successful as a team and have fun.” Eden has become a strong leader to the underclassmen, teaching them the Xavier Cross Country way. She hopes to have a successful season and to have fun while doing it. Come support Eden and the girls Cross Country team on Tuesday October 5 at 4:15 at Hart Ridge Golf Course.
