Thank you, seniors

Allie Andrews

It is the end of the 2017 football season and the student section shouts, “Thank you, seniors” with five claps in between the next “Thank you, seniors”. An ongoing tradition passed down to every senior class at the end of every sports season. I never truly understood the meaning of this silly tradition until this year.

The Class of 2021 is a class to never forget. We have it all, from star athletes and geniuses to the funniest and most caring students out there. Some might say our class is stubborn, but I prefer the term determined. After all, we did boycott our last 8th grade lunch at Regis after they took away our A La Cart. Don’t worry, our class has been determined in actual positive ways as well.

The years 2020 and 2021 hit our senior year like a train at full speed. However, the Class of 2021 was determined to make it the best school year yet and we have succeeded. The seniors excelled in their roles as Community leaders and set an example for the years to follow. Even with COVID-19, the girls’ volleyball team took their rightful place as state champs with many more victories for the Saints in the fall, winter and spring sports. I would have never thought to be so proud of my fellow senior classmates.

As a cheerleader, you get a unique point of view from the track or the court. You see how proud the front row of seniors are to be there and support their Xavier Saints. You see the determination and commitment these Saints have put in during their four years at Xavier. At the end of your last season that last “Thank you, seniors” chant is more than just a silly tradition passed down. It’s a true return of gratitude for the seniors. I would like to say one last time, to all the seniors…Thank you seniors, Thank you seniors.
