Around this time of year, I scroll through my Pinterest feed and see everything there is to see about fall. I see a ton of treats to make, especially foods that are popular during this time of year. According to Pinterest, you can make over 50 treats involving candy corn. Although candy corn is very popular this time of the year, one of the more popular things I see is caramel apples on sticks.
The variations I have seen on Pinterest range from the traditional caramel, apple, and stick all the way to caramel, apple, stick, chocolate coating, peanut butter cups, peanuts, and just about everything under the sun. I love to make seasonal recipes, however, I would like to point out the issue with caramel apples: they are almost impossible to eat without making a complete mess of yourself. If you break down the caramel apple, it is a complicated treat made up of complicated individual items.
The problem is that apples are hard to eat by themselves. Biting into an apple causes your mouth to form in a weird way and it’s uncomfortable. Caramel is hard to eat as well. It is gooey and can get stuck all over your mouth. Therefore, caramel apples are a complete abomination. Eating one means trying to eat two complicated foods on a stick, which makes it even worse. When I see people adding more items to the simple caramel apple it confuses me even more because I don’t know how people are expected to eat such a complicated food.
My fellow Pinterest users know, there is not a problem that Pinterest cannot solve. Mini caramel apple pops are the answer. This involves taking small chunks of apple, dipping them in caramel, and putting them on a stick. This is brilliant. You can actually fit this into your mouth without looking like you are suffering. Mini caramel apple pops would encourage more people to eat caramel apples because it still combines the fall favorites, but eliminates the complications.
Everyone these days wants the easiest solution. Next time you have a problem, check Pinterest.
