Xavier English teacher Mrs. Molly Burgeson won the Teacher of the Week Award on
September 25 for making an impact on the lives of her students. The award is given by 98.1 KHAK country radio station.
The winner is determined by nominations from students through an online application.
The award is on a three week rotation between elementary, middle, and high school teachers. Mrs. Burgeson was nominated by Katelyn Gibbs, a sophomore at Xavier. Gibbs was one of Mrs. Burgeson’s students as a freshman. Gibbs shared how Mrs. Burgeson had made an impact on her.
“She’s one of the best English teachers I’ve ever had,” Gibbs said, “She’s really nice to talk to and
very down to earth,”
Gibbs filled out an online application and wrote a paragraph expressing why she believed Mrs. Burgeson was deserving of the award. Gibbs then waited to hear the results of her nomination. A few weeks later, KHAK made the announcement at 8:30 a.m. on their morning show that Mrs. Burgeson had won.
“It was very surprising and very touching to be remembered by a student I had over a
year ago,” Mrs. Burgeson said.
As teacher of the week, Burgeson received three 25 dollar gift certificates to Pecks
Flower Shop, Wild Hogs Saloon and Eatery, and Kathy’s Pies.
Burgeson used the gift card to Pecks Flower Shop to purchase a plant for her room.
“I just really hope it brings joy to all those who see it,” Mrs. Burgeson said.
