Entertainment is something that everyone looks for during these strange times: reading a book, watching a movie, talking with friends or anything that can help ease the mind from what is going on in the world. Luckily, major platforms have started generously providing free services for people practicing social distancing.

To start, the huge streaming platform, HBO, has given all users free access to some of their massive library of movies and television shows. Beloved series like “The Sopranos” and “The Wire” have become free for anyone to watch. A number of movies have become free to stream on the platform as well, such as last year’s “Detective Pikachu.” One can find these and more on their website.

Not everyone wants to binge a series, but instead wants to take something at their own pace, such as reading a book. Apple is providing tons of free content through their “Stay At Home” e-book catalog. The collection includes many well-known novels, as well as a handful of educational “Sesame Street” and “Winnie the Pooh” stories for children. The collection is highlighted in the home page of the Apple Book’s app.

Those who wish to experience something new virtually have not been forgotten about either. Major french publisher, Ubisoft, has made their classic game, 2009’s “Assassin’s Creed II,” free to own for a limited time. The game follows Ezio Auditore da Firenze, in a beautifully recreated 15th century Italy as he follows in his father’s footsteps to find the Pieces of Eden. The game can be found on the publisher’s “UPlay” launcher.

Though these times are stressful, there is something for everyone to do while isolated due to COVID-19. From movies to games, it is easier than ever to find a new favorite book, movie or television show, and major platforms have made it simple and free to do.
