Striking to state

“Strife,    persistence      and      practice.”

Junior Kaitlyn Buenzow used these words to describe the Xavier varsity girls’ bowling team.

The girls’ bowling team won the district meet and qualified for the state meet. Senior Olivia Nolte won the individual     districts  with a total of 452.

“It is an amazing feeling and just a fun opportunity to get the chance to compete at state,” Nolte said.

The team’s goal for the state meet is to place higher than their 7th place finish from last year and ultimately win the championship.

“It will take a lot of practice and hard work to reach our goal for the state meet,” senior Katelyn Jakel said. “Our team chemistry will help us succeed. Each player on our team is good friends with all the other players and that allows us to support each other more.”

The team continues to get better with the environment of the team and the leadership of Head Coach Russ Camacho.

“Camacho cares about each individual on the team. He sits down and helps everyone, but for us to succeed, we need to listen to him and improve,” Buenzow said. “All he ever asks is that we take their [the coaches’] suggestions on how to be better and execute them. He is insanely understanding and only wants the best for his players.”

Camacho is proud to make it to the state tournament with the girls’ Xavier varsity bowling team.

“If they can realize their potential, we have a legitimate chance to take home a state trophy this year,” Camacho said. “It is so rewarding to see the growth of the team throughout the season.”

The girls competed on Tuesday, February 25 at the state meet at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
