Vans Challenge

Some of the most famous discoveries were by accident—velcro, the microwave and Play-Doh were all unintended inventions. The newest accidental discovery is that the shoe, Vans, will always land right side up no matter how hard or far it is thrown. As this phenomenon blew up on Twitter and was quickly named “The Vans Challenge”, thousands of Vans owners were posting videos of themselves throwing their shoes from stairwells, down hallways, out windows and even in water to see they would land upright. They all did, no matter the style, size or condition the shoe was in. Some people then started to post pictures of actual industrial vans flipped upside down to make humor out of the situation, claiming that this challenge was a “fake”. The first person to post this discovery got over eight million views on her video with 85 thousand retweets and 227 thousand likes in two days after the video was posted.

Although it was announced that the reason why Vans land right side up is because they are weighted, the thousands of videos of Vans being thrown served as daily entertainment for many Twitter users.
