Members Only, Vol. 4 review

Will Christianson, A&E Writer

Even after their passing, this person is still one of the most controversial artists in the music industry. After XXXTentacion was murdered in June, he grew massively in popularity. Along with his many new fans, he accumulated many haters because of his history and some mistakes he made in the past. On January 23, Members Only, Vol. 4 his second posthumous album was released. Due to X’s dark past, this album received a lot of backlash, most of these opinions have nothing to do with the actual music, but the artist himself.

This is the fourth installment in the Members Only series that X has released, and all of these albums are compiled with X and a group of other artists. The first three albums in this series were not very popular due to the fact that they were released before X became more of a mainstream artist. This album definitely received the most attention in the series as fans get excited whenever there is an announcement of new music from X.

Many people were very excited for this album and were expecting big things, but in reality it did not live up to the hype. The album is very average with a couple highlights being “Gassed Up”, “Love Hard, Fall Fast”, “Nothing”, “Now or Never” and “Cold Weather”. There are 24 songs on this album and besides these six, the rest are average. For a 24 song album, only six good songs is nothing special.

I am an X fan and have been since before his passing, so I listened to the music he released when he was alive. All the music that is being released after his death just does not compare to his older music. At this point, producers are just releasing X’s music that was never good enough for him to release when he was alive. His new music will never compare to his older songs. 6/10.
