A new season can mean many things for a team. There are often new players joining the team, new positions being filled, and new memories being made.

One of the new players who joined the varsity team this year, senior goalie Jack Lemke, is also trying out a new position.

“Last year I was a forward on jv and this year I am playing goalie for the first time ever,” Lemke said. “It is a whole different experience.”

Having the support of the returning players will make the transition smoother for Lemke.

“Jack has a lot of natural talent and has played very well this season,” senior captain Thomas Bean said. “He is learning more and more everyday and has filled in great.”

The season has been full of ups and downs, but the boys are confident everything is coming together.

“Our schedule at the beginning of the season was against the best teams in our conference,” Bean said. “We are getting better everyday and look to finish the season strong.”

The ultimate goal of their season is still to reach the state tournament.

“We are looking to improve over the next few weeks so we are sharp for the state tournament,” Lemke said.

The Saints beat Dubuque Wahlert at home on Thursday April 26 by a score of 2-0. They played at Cedar Rapids Jefferson on Tuesday May 1. The team plays tomorrow, May 4, against Dubuque Senior.
