The world-renowned Technology, Entertainment, and Design organization will be making its way to Cedar Rapids early next month. TEDxCedarRapids is an independently organized TED event that will be held at the Cedar Rapids Public Library on May 12. Organized by Breanna Oxley, the event will include Keynote presenters, interactive sessions, and existing TED videos. With a theme entitled “Through the Course of Time”, the event will focus on innovation within the Cedar Rapids community and will highlight some of the ways Cedar Rapids has contributed to beneficial change in the world.

“We really wanted to look at community and the last year of being in America, being in Iowa, being in this area,” Oxley said. “We’re hoping it will be successful and people will have an interest to bring this about again.”

The event was announced on Facebook and is accessible through tickets only. There were only 100 tickets available, all of which sold out in less than a day. The speakers for the day include Vanessa McNeal, Autumn Pino, Trevor Regan, Dorris Ramsey, and Daniel Tardy. There are a variety of topics being covered, from education and social change to entrepreneurship.

The event organizers hope the conference will inspire people to make an impact in their own communities. They hope with the immediate success of this event, more will be able to be held in the future.
