With the return of spring, comes the return of soccer season. Although games are just starting, the girls have been practicing with each other for a little over a month. Together, they have been working towards their ultimate goal: qualifying for the state tournament in June.

“We are hoping to have a winning season that takes us further than last year at state with an awesome group of girls,” senior captain Elena Minor said.

With losing key seniors, Ellie Fischer, Addy Hoffman, and Melody Snow due to graduation, the returning players and underclassmen will have to work even harder this year.

“We have a very deep bench this year and many talented players,” senior captain Tana Felton said.

The team played their first game on April 5 against Dowling Catholic and lost by a score of 3-1. They then beat Cedar Rapids Washington by a score of 3-2 with two scores from senior Molly Kinney and one from sophomore Caitlynn Daniels.

“As we have seen in our games so far, we have a lot of great players who are more than capable of helping us be successful this year,” Minor said.

The team played on Tuesday, April 17 at Linn Mar and play today, April 19, against Prairie at home. They play next on Saturday, April 21 at North Scott.
