As a wrestler, accumulating 100 wins is a daunting task. Senior Keegan Schultschik accomplished this task and earned his 100th win on January 20 at The Clyde Bean Duals hosted by Iowa City High. Schultschik was undefeated for the day, going 5-0, earning him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

“It has always been a goal in the back of my head to get 100 career wins,” Schultschik said. “It takes time and hard work to get to where I am, and my advice to younger wrestlers is to keep working hard to attain your goals.”

Schultschik is only the seventh Xavier wrestler to reach 100 wins, and joins former teammates Josh Gerke (X17) and Clint Lembeck (X16) in this feat.

“Keegan has come so far since his freshman year,” Coach Ryan Chambers said. “He takes every opportunity to get better. He gets on the mat at different clubs and several camps throughout the offseason. This has been the difference, because he refuses to be out worked.”

Schultschik has achieved many of his goals, but there is still one left to complete.

“My ultimate goal is to reach the podium at state,” Schultschik said. “I have always looked up to the guys who reached it when I was younger, and want to achieve it myself.”

Schultschik and the rest of the Xavier wrestlers are preparing for districts on Saturday, February 10, at Dubuque Senior High School.

“I am preparing for districts by fine tuning techniques and staying healthy, so I can peak and wrestle at my best,” Schultschik said.

The top two finishers in each weight class out of eight teams at districts, move on and qualify for the state tournament in Des Moines.

“My goal as a captain is to see some state qualifiers and place winners on our team,” junior captain Garrett Ries said. “We are working hard to make adjustments at practice  so we can to be our best before districts.”

The Saints hope to close out their season at state on Saturday, February 17 at the Wells Fargo Arena.
