Coffee House Combo

Xavier choir and band students can be found performing not just in school, but in the community. A group of students performed at the St. Matthew’s Coffee House Saturday, October 30.

“It’s a really cool thing to do to help share our faith in the community,” junior Nolan Pithan said. “Especially because it is with friends.”

The students sang songs such as “Blessing” by Laura Story and “All the People Said Amen” by Matt Maher. They also included many more contemporary faith based songs. Around 70 people came for the event. The Faith Formation Committee of St. Matthew’s put on the event for two reasons: prayer and camaraderie.

“I would say the biggest goal would be to get people to show up, say hello, and enjoy the music,” committee chairman and Xavier teacher Mr. Mike Goldsmith said. “It’s great to get people involved and to bring people together in the parish that might not normally encounter so much.”

The audience included a variety of people, from families to the elderly. Members of the audience did not just sit and listen, but were also encouraged to sing along.

“I like to sing, and I like that I can help out the parish with my voice,” senior Liam Karr said. “It’s always really cool to see people singing along with you and getting the kids really excited about their faith.”

This is not the first time St. Matthew’s has put on an event like this, and they plan to have more throughout the year. The Saints had nine different singers and musicians participate in the event, but they are always looking for more.

“I love this because I love to sing and share my faith,” senior Luke Lesnik said. “We are always looking for more people to help sing if anyone is interested.”

Students wanting to participate in the Coffee House Combo should see any of the students who participated in the event to learn more about events such as these in the future.
