Girls’ soccer set new goals

Sir Alex Ferguson once said, “Hard work will always overcome natural talent when natural talent does not work hard enough.” This is one of the Xavier girls’ soccer head coach Chris Higgins’ favorite quotes. The Saints will be looking to emulate this quote as they pursue excellence on the pitch.

For Xavier girls’ soccer, this season is different from the rest. The team has a new set of goals and a new coach. Under the leadership of Coach Higgins, the Saints hope to achieve these goals. In order to achieve these goals, they have been working on skill and teamwork.

“The team is full of skilled players,” senior Addy Hoffman said.  “Now we have to focus on connecting with each other and building our chemistry. We are motivated and believe that we can accomplish big things in the MVC.”

Hoffman was not the only senior to discuss how they plan to approach these goals. Senior Melody Snow commented on the difficulty of the task and how the team hopes hard work can turn their goals into reality.

“The team is working extremely hard at practice to improve every aspect of the game,” Snow said. “We identify our strengths and attack our weaknesses in order to get better. We know this type of goal isn’t easily achieved, therefore being committed and working hard is crucial.”

After a four-year title drought, the Saints hope to end this spell under the stout leadership of Higgins. The Saints’ next game will be at Heco Field on Tuesday, May 9 at 4:15 p.m. versus  Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
